The whole climb is broken down to several flights of steps so that you can rest where necessary. There was a jovial guy descending Jacob's Ladder and he encouraged us by saying that we were almost near the end of our climb and that there were paramedics waiting for us at the top (the latter was not true of course).

This was our second time visiting Cheddar Gorge. The first time, we paid to walk up Jacobs ladder - assuming this was the only access. After speaking to others there the previous time, we discovered there are a couple of FREE access points in Cheddar.

To go up Jacob's Ladder, it is a ticketed attraction and needs the building at the bottom… However going down it is free. Jacob's Ladder leads directly up to the look out tower, and the Cheddar Gorge trail.
